Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi has advised his former club to consider signing Percy Tau in order to beef up their squad.
When speaking to The South African, the former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Brian Baloyi revealed that it would be a wise idea for Amakhosi to invest in Percy Tau – despite his age.
Percy Tau, 32, has undoubtedly been one of the best players in South Africa over the past years. He proved himself at his first club, Mamelodi Sundowns, before his big-money move to the English Premier league club Brighton & Hove Albion.
Why Kaizer Chiefs Should Sign Tau?
Brian Baloyi believes Percy Tau would bolster the Kaizer Chiefs squad and also bring the winning mentality, which is something Amakhosi are believed to be lacking at the moment this season.
The 32-year-old attacker previously held talks with Kaizer Chiefs, according to Goal.com, however, the wage expectation was the stumbling block and Amakhosi chose to walk away.
Despite reaching a dead-end in the past over a deal with Percy Tau, Brian Baloyi believes Kaizer Chiefs could reach an agreement with the free-agent when the January transfer window opens.
Percy Tauʼs Career Over The Years

Famously known as “The Lion of Judah”, Percy Tau has done extremely well for himself over the years. He started his football career at one of the best clubs in South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns, before being loaned to the lower division side, Witbank Spurs.
Percy Tau spent just one year at Witbank Spurs, before moving back to Mamelodi Sundowns. He was eventually given a chance in the Mamelodi Sundowns first team by Pitso Mosimane, who was the club’s coach that time.
Mamelodi Sundowns sold the player to the English Premier league side, Brighton & Hove Albion in 2018 for a record-fee of R50 Million. His record move to the Premier league was cut short as the player was immediately loaned to the Belgian side, Union Saint-Gilloise, who were participating in the lower division that time.
He spent just one season at the Belgian side, Union Saint-Gilloise, before moving to the Belgian giants, Club Brugge. He joined Club Brugge on a loan deal, where he ended up lifting the Belgian Pro League with the club during the 2019/20 season.
When his loan deal with Club Brugge came to an end, Percy Tau was loaned to another Belgian club, Anderlecht for one season. After spending three years in Belgium on loan deals, Percy Tau was then sold to the Egyptian giants, Al Ahly SC, for a fee of around R30 Million.
The 32-year-old reunited with Pitso Mosimane in Egypt, where he spent four years. During his time at Al Ahly SC, Percy Tau won eleven trophies including two CAF Champions League, a two Egyptian Premier League trophies, CAF Super Cup and also domestic cups.
The Lion Of Judah left the Egyptian giants last year for Qatar club, Qatar SC, where he once again played under Pitso Mosimane. It was unfortunate that Pitso Mosimaneʼs stay in the Qatari side was cut short, which left Percy Tauʼs future in the dark, where he later left the club for the Vietnamese club, Nam Định Football Club.
Percy Tau spent a few good months at Nam Định Football Club, where he played along with his former Bafana Bafana colleague, Njabulo Blom. He left the club few months ago and has been a free agent ever since leaving the Club.
Opinion: What Tau Can Bring At Chiefs
Despite being already 32, Percy Tau still has a lot to offer for Kaizer Chiefs as he understands the league very well. Kaizer Chiefs need a leader at the front who has experience, as the club currently relies mostly in youngsters.
Amakhosi has already invested in youngsters as they have Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, Luke Baartman, Asanele Velebayi and Langelihle Phili. The club now needs someone who can guide the youngsters, which could give them more chances of competing for the league and other domestic trophies.
A two-year contract wouldn’t hurt Amakhosi as they have previously signed top players who were earning a huge lump sum including the likes of Khama Billiat, Keagan Dolly and Samir Nurkovic.
Percy Tau is a player who can easily adapt at a new club, which could benefit Fernando Da Cruz, who is looking to bring back glory days at Kaizer Chiefs.
